As the leaves fall, there are several great ways to take advantage of fall’s unique opportunities to stay active and healthy.

Gather your family or friends and head out to the pumpkin patch or apple orchard. Picking pumpkins or apples are great ways to have fun and be active while participating in activities that only fall can offer. Checking out a corn maze (even a haunted one as Halloween approaches) is also a fun activity during the fall. Building leaf piles can help turn chores into fun – and is also a good workout. Jump into the piles afterwards!

No matter what you decide to do to be active this fall, remember to do so safely. Dress in light layers and don’t forget a hat and mittens when the temperature drops. Staying hydrated is also important. After the heat of summer subsides, you might not feel as thirsty, but it’s still necessary to drink plenty of water. Exercising early in the day can also be helpful. As the days become shorter and night falls earlier, you may feel more tired in the evenings. Plus, exercising in full daylight is much safer if you are on roads – that way, cars can see you more easily.
